Tibetans doing pretty well in Sikkim: Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay

Gangtok/UNI: It was really exciting for the Tibetan community to meet none other than Dr Lobsang Sangay, their elected Prime Minister, subsequently given title of President or Sikyong (equivalent to President).

Dr Sangay is on a two-day-long tour to the state, during his yet another 3 months period in office.

"Having completed 10 years in office, after the public mandate, I need to tell them about the accomplishment of the promises made earlier.In fact almost 90 pc promises have been fulfilled," said Dr Lobsang talking about his purpose of visit to the state.

"Improvement has taken place in the field of Education, maximum students have secured + 90% marks in Exams. Tibetan Policy and Support Act passed by the US Senate. Now they have also extended recognition to the Tibetan Parliament in exile. Religious freedom will be there, if not US will impose sanctions," added Dr Lobsang.

As far as Tibetans in Sikkim are concerned, he said they are very hardworking and doing pretty well.

"When we came we had nothing but now it's different," he said.

"Once Sikkim Rehabilitation Law is implemented, Tibetans will be able to get Trade licences and other facilities," he said.
