The lynching in Jharkhand has pained me: Narendra Modi

New Delhi, June 26 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reacted to the death of a Muslim man in Jharkhand in a lynching incident and said the event left him 'pained'.

Modi was addressing in the Rajya Sabha when he said: "The lynching in Jharkhand has pained me. It has saddened others too."

The victim, identified as Tabrez Ansari, died after being lynched by a mob in BJP-ruled Jharkhand. Meanwhile, videos of Tabrez being lynched by a mob and forced to chant 'Jai Shri Ram' and ' Jai Hamuman' have gone viral on social media.

"But, some people in the Rajya Sabha are calling Jharkhand a hub of lynching. Is this fair? Why are they insulting a state.None of us have the right to insult the state of Jharkhand," he said.

He questioned the negativity around use of EVMs in polling.

" Those opposing EVMs are not only opposed to EVMs.They have problems with technology, digital transactions, Aadhaar, GST, Bhim App," he said.

"Why such negativity? This negativity was one of the chief reasons why some parties have not been able to win people's trust," he said.

Attacking the Congress party over the Lok Sabha poll victory of the BJP, Modi said: "My friends in the Congress, they have not been able to digest victory. They have not been able to accept defeat. I do not consider this to be a healthy sign in a democracy."
