Hyderabad, Mar 25 (UNI) The filing of nominations for the upcoming Lok Sabha election in Telangana came to a close at 1500 hours on Monday.

The nominations filing process which began on March 18 picked up phase after the main contesting parties had announced the list of their candidates and a heavy rush of aspirants was seen since Friday last, said to be an auspicious day.

The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be taken up on Tuesday and the last day for withdrawal is March 28.

The single-phase election in the state is slated for April 11 and the counting of votes will be taken up on May 23.

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) the Congress and the BJP are contesting for all the 17 Lok Sabha seats,

Significantly, the Telugu Desam Party has decided to stay away from the election for the first time since its inception in 1982, party sources indicated that the TDP will support the Congress and the CPI nominees in the election.

The TRS has been exuding confidence that it will replicate its massive victory in the Assembly election held in December last by winning 16 LS seats.

The Congress leadership is hoping to bag six to ten seats, while the BJP says that it would perform well in the Lok Sabha election unlike in the Assembly where it managed to win a lone seat out of the 119 seats in the state.
