Telangana becomes latest state to pass anti-CAA resolution in assembly

| @indiablooms | Mar 16, 2020, at 05:55 pm

Hyderabad/UNI: Joining several other states in the country, the Telangana Assembly on Monday passed a resolution opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The resolution urged the Government of India to amend the CAA in order to remove all references to any religion or to any particular country.

The house, through the resolution, expressed concern over the proposed implementation of the National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) which could result in exclusion of large number of people.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao who moved the resolution and initiated the discussion said that Telangana has strong reason to oppose the CAA and added it would not ensure the well being of the country.

He said the eruption of Communal riots in the national capital during the recent visit of US President Donald Trump was also not a healthy sign.

Members cutting across party lines including the main opposition Congress and the Majlis spoke against the CAA and supported the resolution.
