Swati Maliwal says fast unto death to continue after Delhi Police stops protests at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi/IBNS: Chief of Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal was stopped from holding a hunger strike to protest against crime against women at the Jantar Mantar.

Maliwal, who is demanding fast-tracking of rape cases and hanging of rapists within six months of conviction, said she was not a "criminal" and it was "unfortunate" that Delhi Police was not cooperating.

She has also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating her demands.

Earlier, in a tweet, she said the police had barricaded the area around Jantar Mantar and did not allow to set up mikes, toilets and tents. She said the police had clearly told protests would not be allowed.

However, the Delhi Police has said that it is yet to receive the details, including the number of mics, protesters expected and a copy of undertaking as per the Supreme Court guidelines.
