New Delhi, Oct 1 (IBNS): Minister for Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Wednesday launched the Cleanliness Drive (Swachhta Abhiyaan).

Taking the lead, the Minister herself took the broom and swept areas outside the canteen.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the cleanliness drive needs to be converted into a National movement.

Citing the example of western countries where citizens are fully conscious of the need to keep their surroundings neat and clean, the Minister said that cleanliness is not just the duty of the Government, it is also the moral obligation of all the citizens to keep their surroundings thoroughly clean.

She appealed to all present to spare 2 hrs every week to clean an area of their surroundings to make the movement a success.

The Minister also inspected other areas within the Ministry.

Noting that certain areas contained dirt and other waste, she advised the employees to be extra cautious and ensure that all the areas within the Ministry were always well maintained and clean.
