Sushma condemns Lanka caricature of Jaya-Modi, envoy to be summoned

New Delhi, Aug 4 (IBNS): Indian external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday ondemned in Parliament some objectionable illustrations of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a Sri Lanka government website even as Lanka earlier apologized for the same.

She also said the high commissioner of Sri Lanka will be summoned.

With the tension mounting in Tamil Nadu over the illustration, a team of under-15 cricketers from Sri Lanka were sent back from Chennai owing to security reasons, ahead of their tournament.

India would lodge a protest with Lanka by summoning their envoy.

"India strongly condemns this. We will definitely call their high commissioner and discuss this issue," Sushma Swaraj told Parliament as Parliament witness anger over the issue.

The article titled "How meaningful are Jayalalithaa's love letters to Narendra Modi?" created the controversy and repercussions. The article tried to show that PM Modi is controlled by the Tamil Nadu CM on the issue of fishermen's arrest in Lankan waters.
