Surya Kiran: India-Nepal joint military exercise to begin on December 29

The 18th edition of the joint military exercise between India and Nepal, Exercise Surya Kiran, will be held at Saljhandi region in Nepal from December 29.

The exercise will be held till January 13.

The Indian Army posted on X: "The 18th edition of Exercise #SuryaKiran, a joint military exercise between #India and #Nepal, is scheduled to be held at Saljhandi, Nepal from 29 December 2024 to 13 January 2025."

What is the aim of the exercise?

According to the Indian Army, the aim of the exercise is to enhance interoperability in jungle warfare, counter-terrorism operations in mountains and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief under the United Nations Charter.

"Exercise #SuryaKiran signifies the strong bonds of friendship, trust and common cultural linkages that exist between India and Nepal. It also provides a platform for a productive and fruitful engagement between #IndianArmy & #NepaliArmy, showcasing the unwavering commitment of both the nations towards a broader defence cooperation," the Indian Army wrote on X.
