Supreme Court grants Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal interim bail in liquor policy case

New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court on Friday granted an interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor policy case, media reports said.

The top court has referred certain issues related to the arrest by the Enforcement Directorate to a larger bench.

Kejriwal, however, will not walk out of the jail now as he is still under arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation linked to the same case.

Reacting to the bail, AAP leader Atishi said, "Rouse Avenue Court also while granting bail to Arvind Kejriwal-ji had said that ED does not have any evidence, ED is working with bias. Today, the Supreme Court also approved the bail decision of the Rouse Avenue Court, granting bail to Arvind Kejriwal."

On March 21, 2024, Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate over money laundering allegations while framing the Delhi liquor policy for 2021-22, which was later scrapped after the Lieutenant Governor raised red flags.

The ED has alleged the money Kejriwal got from the liquor sellers was used to fund the party's campaign in Goa since he is the convenor of the AAP.

Kejriwal and the AAP have throughout maintained the Centre has been misusing its agencies to harass the Opposition with false cases.

Kejriwal was given an interim bail in May for a brief period until June 2, 2024 for campaigning in the Lok Sabha polls.

He went back to the jail on June 2, 2024 the day next to the last phase poll date.
