Stubbornness of some people led to presidential rule in Maharashtra: BJP attacks Shiv Sena

Senior BJP leader Sudhir Munganthiwar has been quoted by Times Now as saying, "Imposition of President's rule is an insult to the mandate of the people and this had happened because of the stubbornness of some people who disrespected that mandate. We are keeping a close watch on the evolving political situation.”

President Ram Nath Kovind approved the presidential rule on Tuesday after Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari sent a report to the Centre saying the formation of government by the political parties was impossible in Maharashtra now.

After severing ties with the BJP, the Sena was looking for the support of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress, which have won 54 and 44 seats respectively.

However, due to the Congress' delay in taking a call and the imposition of presidential rule, Sena, which won 56 seats in the recently concluded state polls, could not form the government.

The BJP, which won 105 seats alone, had earlier refused to entertain Sena's demand of 50:50 power share and rotational Chief Ministership followed by the breakage of the saffron alliance.

Meanwhile, the Sena moved the Supreme Court against the Governor's decision to not give it 48 hours to prove majority. The hearing on the case will take place on Wednesday.
