Still time to shun violence, tells J&K DGP to local youth holding gun

Srinagar/UNI: Reiterating his appeal to local youth holding guns to shun the path of violence, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh on Saturday said every possible help will be provided to them to lead a normal and peaceful life again.

An encouraging trend has emerged during the past few months after local militants surrendered during live encounters as they have now realized the futility of violence, Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function held at Zewan to observe Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on the birth anniversary of Sadar Patel, Iron Man of India.

Similar functions were also held at Kupwara, Badgam, Awantipora and other District Police Lines (DPLs), where officers and jawans were administered oath of unity on National Unity Day.

He said it is good that youth (militants) are coming forward to surrender during live encounters. We want our children to come back, DGP said, adding they will not be harmed and will provided all help to live a normal life with their families.

"Our youth can take part in several activities, including sports," he said.

About the recent killing of three Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Kulgam, the police chief said the militants responsible have been identified.

"Our investigation is going on right track, he said adding they (militants) will be neutralised soon," he said.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar said on Friday that Lasher-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were responsible for killing of BJP workers. Two are local and one is a Pakistani, he said, adding the car which was used to commit the crime has been seized.
