Sonia Gandhi rejects Sharad Pawar's proposal to form a govt with Shiv Sena in Maharashtra: Report

| @indiablooms | Nov 05, 2019, at 01:32 am

New Delhi/IBNS: Congress president Sonia Gandhi has refused to get into an agreement with Shiv Sena to form the next government in Maharashtra in a meeting with NCP chief Sharad Power who is in favour of such an alliance to keep BJP out of power, an NDTV report said.

Even as the Shiv Sena speaks of enough numbers to have its own Chief Minister hoping to find the support from NCP and its allies, the outcome from today's meeting may deliver a set back to its aspirations.

Mr Pawar said he would have another meeting with Sonia Gandhi, the report said, adding that his response indicated that the Congress chief had refused to accept new power alignment even if it meant blocking the BJP.

While a section of Congress' state leaders is in favour of Pawar's proposal, Sonia Gandhi has rejected it with a "polite-political no", the report said.

After BJP's Devendra Fadnavis refused Shiv Sena's proposal to share the Chiefminsitership on 50:50 basis, the latter had been looking for allies.

Shiv Sena's Sanjay Raut met Sharad Power after Diwali though it was termed as a courtesy call on the occasion. Raut also met the Governor on Monday during which he said they discussed the political situation in the state.

Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar said he would be happy to sit in the opposition as he doesn't have the number to form the government.
