Soldier dies near LoC during 'operational task' in J&K's Baramulla

Srinagar/IBNS/UNI: A soldier of the Army's elite counter-insurgency unit died during an operational task along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the Indian Army said on Friday.

Officials said 24-year-old gunner Gurpreet Singh of 8 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion and a resident of Gurdaspur, Punjab slipped in the Gulmarg sector on Thursday which resulted in his death. His body was later retrieved.

Gunner Singh's parent unit was the Regiment of Artillery.

Army Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said soldier Gurpreet Singh is survived by his mother Lakhwinder Kaur.

“Chinar Corps regrets the unfortunate demise of Gnr Gurpreet Singh while performing operational task in forward area in #Baramulla Sector. Gnr Gurpreet Singh hails from Gurdaspur, Punjab and is survived by his mother Smt Lakhwinder Kaur. In this hour of grief, the Indian Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved family & is committed to their well-being,” a post by Chinar Corps on X read.
