SJVN Ltd to generate 5,097 MW from 5 hydroelectric projects in Arunachal Pradesh

The Government-owned power producer, SJVN Ltd, has been assigned five hydroelectric projects in Arunachal Pradesh, with a total capacity to generate 5,097 MW.

The Dibang River basin is set to witness the development of five major hydroelectric projects: the 3,097 MW Etalin, 680 MW Attunli, 500 MW Emini, 420 MW Amulin, and 400 MW Mihumdon, reported Northeast.

With an investment exceeding Rs 50,000 crore, these projects are expected to make a substantial contribution to the region's power generation while also reducing carbon emissions by approximately 1.1 million tonnes annually.

Initially awarded to private developers, the government of Arunachal Pradesh decided to terminate the contracts due to perceived lack of interest from these developers in executing the projects.

Consequently, the responsibility for these projects has been assigned to central public sector undertakings (PSUs) like SJVN, NEEPCO, NHPC, and THDC.

The allocation of these five hydro projects to SJVN represents a significant milestone for the company, which already holds a prominent position in the Indian hydropower sector.

Through these projects, SJVN will augment its installed capacity, thus contributing significantly to India's ongoing efforts in achieving energy security.
