Six months after Operation Sindoor, LeT and JeM plan fresh coordinated attacks in J&K

New Delhi/Srinagar/IBNS: Fresh intelligence inputs point to a significant escalation in Pakistan-backed terror activity in Jammu and Kashmir, just six months after Operation Sindoor — India’s precision counter-terror offensive launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, according to an NDTV report.

The report warns that Pakistan-based outfits, particularly Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), are regrouping and mobilising for a fresh wave of coordinated strikes.

According to the intelligence dossier, these groups have ramped up infiltration, surveillance, and cross-border logistics since September.

Infiltration intensifies across LoC

Multiple LeT and JeM units have reportedly crossed into Jammu and Kashmir via the Line of Control (LoC) with logistical support from Pakistan’s Special Services Group (SSG) and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) operatives.

One LeT faction led by a terrorist identified as Shamsher allegedly used drones for aerial reconnaissance to identify vulnerable stretches along the LoC — a possible precursor to fidayeen-style assaults or drone-based weapon drops in the coming weeks.

Further intelligence indicates that Pakistan’s Border Action Teams (BATs) — made up of ex-SSG commandos and militants — have been redeployed across Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), suggesting imminent cross-border raids on Indian forward posts.

Officials view this as one of the most serious escalations since Operation Sindoor, underscoring Pakistan’s renewed efforts to “export instability” into the region.

ISI plotting fresh terror strikes

Meetings held in PoK in October 2025 reportedly brought together senior figures from Jamaat-e-Islami, Hizbul Mujahideen, and ISI, where plans were allegedly finalised to reactivate dormant cells, provide stipends to former commanders, and avenge losses sustained during Operation Sindoor.

Intercepted communications suggest ISI handlers have instructed terror groups to intensify retaliatory attacks against Indian forces, political workers, and local administrative officials.

Adding to the concern, LeT operatives have begun re-establishing local networks by mapping sympathisers and logistical assets across the Kashmir Valley—reviving human intelligence systems largely dismantled during India’s intensified counter-terror operations earlier this year.

Intelligence also points to the expansion of narco-terror and arms smuggling networks, with funds being channelled through routes similar to those recently uncovered in Punjab and Rajasthan.

These developments come amid a fragile phase of calm in Jammu and Kashmir, marked by local elections and a revival of tourism.

Pakistan's renewed proxy push

Security agencies, however, caution that Pakistan’s renewed proxy push seeks to derail this return to normalcy, particularly as Islamabad faces deepening economic and political turmoil and growing global isolation over its terror sponsorship.

Officials in New Delhi have described the intelligence as a “critical alert”, confirming that the Indian Army and intelligence units across the Northern Command are on heightened readiness.

Sources suggest that Operation Sindoor could soon move into a renewed phase if Pakistan’s cross-border terror escalation persists.

The warning also coincides with India’s ongoing Trishul Tri-Service military exercise along the western borders of Gujarat and Rajasthan.

With winter approaching—a season typically marked by reduced infiltration—analysts caution that Pakistan’s aggressive moves could signal a renewed winter offensive, testing India’s counter-terror resilience once again.
