Six killed , 46 injured in two separate road accidents in South Tamil Nadu

Virudhunagar, Jun 4 (UNI) Six people were killed and 46 others injured in two different road accidents in Southern districts of Virudhunagar and Thoothukudi on Tuesday.

Police said three people, including two elderly women and a minor girl were killed and 46 others injured, when the bus in which they were travelling fell into a roadside pit and overturned at Pethu Reddiapatti village on the Kovilpatti-Sattur Highway in this district.

The occupants of the ill-fated bus, hailing from Kannankode in Kerala were returning to their native after an excursion to Kanyakumari, when the accident occurred.

The deceased were identified as Sarojini (63), Pethammal (64) and Nikhila (8). The injured were rescued from the bus and admitted to the government hospitals at Kovilpatti and Sattur.

In another incident, three persons including a manager of the State Bank of India were killed when a car in which they were travelling rammed into the rear side of a stationary Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus at Keezha Sanmugapuram near Surankudi in Thoothukudi district.

The dead were identified as Selva Ganesh, Manager of SBI’s Uchinatham branch, Nagarajan, bank security and the car driver Azhaguraja.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.
