Lucknow/UNI: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati Saturday condemned the brutal killing of a Dalit on the Delhi-Singhu border and demanded strict action against the culprits.

In a series of tweets, the BSP leader said: "The brutal murder of a Dalit man of Punjab on the Delhi-Singhu border is very sad and shameful."

She also demanded strict action by police against the culprits as has been done in the Lakhimpur Kheri case.

"Besides, the Dalit CM of Punjab (Charanjit Singh Channi) should give Rs 50 lakh and a government job to the victim's family," she said.

On Friday, the body of a man with a hand chopped off, was found tied to a barricade in Kundli, close to the main stage at the farmers' protest site along the Delhi-Haryana Singhu border.

Mayawati also tweeted on a Chhattisgarh incident on Friday, where people were crushed to death by a car during the immersion of Durga idol.

Comparing the incident with the Lakhimpur one, Mayawati urged Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel to take strict action against the accused.

She said, "The incident of death of one person and injuries to many people in Chhattisgarh during Durga Visarjan is very sad, which is reminiscent of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.

"The Congress government should give financial help and jobs to the families of the victims and take strict action against the culprits."

On Friday, one person died on the spot and about two dozen suffered severe injuries when a vehicle carrying smuggled ganja mowed down members of the religious procession in Pathalgaon block of Jashpur district.
