Mumbai/IBNS: Entrepreneur Namita Thapar has hit back at critics who targeted her for a video discussing the health benefits of Namaz.

What’s the controversy?

The row began in late March when Thapar shared a reel after celebrating Eid with friends, where she spoke about the wellness aspects of Namaz.

She described Namaz as a “beautiful spiritual practice” and highlighted its physical benefits, calling it a “full-body exercise” that improves flexibility and joint movement.

Comparing the Tashahhud posture to Vajrasana, the Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals said it aids digestion.

She also noted that the meditative and repetitive nature of the prayer enhances focus and reduces stress.

Backlash on social media

While many users appreciated her perspective, a section of social media criticised the Shark Tank India judge, accusing her of promoting one religion over another.

The video triggered a strong online reaction, with Thapar also facing personal attacks.

Responding in another video on X, Thapar said her observations stem from a healthcare and wellness perspective.

Questioning the selective outrage, she pointed out that she had earlier spoken about Hindu practices like yoga and surya namaskar without facing similar criticism.

In a post on X, she wrote that she chose to speak up despite trolling, stressing that “silence is not a virtue” when one is disrespected.

She urged people to raise their voices against wrongdoing “out of humanity” and “out of patriotism.”
