Sikkim Assembly to add five more ST seats

New Delhi/Gangtok, Mar 24 (IBNS): The number of reserved seats for Scheduled Tribes (ST) in the Sikkim Assembly will go up from 12 to 17, with the National Commission for Schedule Tribes (NCST) approving the proposal for the same, according to media reports.

 NCST gave the approval during a meeting in New Delhi on Thursday.

 

The number of total seats in the Sikkim Assembly is set to increase to 40 from 32. Of the additional eight seats, five will be reserved for the state's Limbu and Tamang tribes, media reported.
