New Delhi, Mar 23(IBNS) A number of students of the Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi have been asked to show cause for putting up sanitary napkins across the campus as part of a protest against gender inequality.

Reports on Monday said the students have been asked to reply to the authorities by March 31.

The napkins put by students  carried feminist messages.

The proctor of the university said the authorities are not against the protest but the manner of the protest.

"We are not against the message but against the means used. We acted after receiving verbal complaints from students and staff. If the matter becomes severe, we will call for a disciplinary committee to look into it," the Chief Proctor said,
