Shivaji's comparison with PM Narendra Modi is an honour for Maratha king: BJP Gen Secy

Kolhapur/UNI: Maharashtra BJP general secretary on Wednesday added steam to the controversy over Jay Bhagvan Goyal's book by saying that it's an honour for Chhatrapati Shivaji to be compared with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"It's not wrong to compare Mr Modi with Shivaji Maharaj. As Shivaji worked for downtrodden people and farmers, the Prime Minister undertook various development decisions for farmers and people. On this basis, the comparison is an honour for the Maratha king," Suresh Halvankar, BJP general secretary and a former MLA said.

He made these remarks during a party meet in which senior leader and state BJP president Chandrakant Patil were present, sources said.

A string of protests have erupted across the state over the release of a book, which weigh the legendary Maratha king Shivaji and Modi on same scale.

Following the severe backlash, the book was withdrawn by the writer Goyal.
