Kolkata/IBNS: At least four activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were seriously injured as a clash erupted between the supporters of BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) at Bankra area in Kolkata's neighbouring Howrah city on Sunday evening, hours after Union Home Minister Amit Shah's virtual rally at Dumurjola ground, reports said.

According to reports, few TMC supporters allegedly attacked a minibus carrying BJP supporters, who were returning from the party's Dumurjola rally, and beat up the BJP activists.

Few motorcycles of the BJP workers were also vandalized during the clash.

Following the incident, a heavy police force along with the Rapid Action Force (RAF) rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.

BJP claimed that at least four of its workers were seriously injured in the clash and had been admitted to a local hospital.

Local TMC leaders denied their party's involvement in the incident.

Earlier in the afternoon, BJP held a mega rally in Howrah's Dumurjola stadium, where former TMC leaders Rajib Banerjee, Baishali Dalmiya, Rathin Chakraborty, Prabir Ghoshal and Partha Sarathi Chatterjee, and actor Rudranil Ghosh, who joined BJP a day ago, were present.

Union Minister Smriti Irani and HM Amit Shah (virtually) addressed the mass meeting here.
