Seven shops gutted in market fire in Siliguri, no casualties

Siliguri,Jun11(UNI) At least seven shops were gutted in a massive fire at Bidhan Nagar Market here in the wee hours of Tuesday.

According to sources, the fire was caused due to a short circuit in the congested marketplace around 3 am on Tuesday.

Four fire tenders were pressed in to douse the flames. It took firefighters three to four hours to extinguish the blaze completely.

Altogether seven shops were reduced to ashes in the incident, sources said.

According to the Bidhan Nagar Market traders' association, the fire caused an estimated Rs 1 crore in damages.

There were no casualties in the fire as all shops were closed at the time, police said.
