At least seven Indian workers were killed and nine others injured in a tragic road accident in Dubai on Monday after a minibus collided with a truck that had reportedly stopped in the middle of a highway due to a technical fault.

The accident occurred on Emirates Road, prompting an emergency response from Dubai Police, rescue teams and medical personnel.

Truck breakdown led to fatal collision, say police

According to Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, preliminary investigations indicate that the truck had come to an abrupt halt on the roadway after suffering a technical malfunction.

"The bus driver, who allegedly failed to pay attention and maintain a safe distance, then crashed into the rear of the truck," the official said.

The collision proved devastating, resulting in seven deaths at the scene and injuries to nine passengers.

Five injured in serious condition

Authorities said the injured victims were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Among the nine injured, five sustained serious injuries while four others suffered moderate wounds.

Dubai Police said traffic accident investigators have been deployed to examine the scene, collect evidence and determine the precise circumstances that led to the crash.

Indian Consulate extends support to victims

Expressing grief over the tragedy, the Indian Consulate in Dubai said it was coordinating closely with local authorities to assist those affected.

"Deeply saddened by the tragic road accident in Dubai that claimed the lives of several Indian workers," the mission said in a post on X.

Officials from the consulate also visited the hospital and met the injured workers, assuring them of all possible assistance.

Rescue teams restore traffic flow

Dubai Police said traffic patrols secured the accident site, managed vehicle movement and ensured unhindered access for emergency responders.

The damaged truck and minibus were later removed from the road to restore normal traffic flow.

The Indian Consulate conveyed its condolences to the families of the victims, saying its thoughts and prayers were with those who lost their loved ones in the tragedy.
