Puducherry/UNI: R Selvam, known as Embalam Selvam, was elected as the Speaker of Puducherry Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

Protem Speaker K Lakshminarayanan, who was in the Chair, announced that Mr Selvam was elected 'unopposed'.

Following his election, Chief Minister N Rangaswamy and leader of the opposition R Siva escorted him to the Speaker’s Chair.

Later, a few members including the Chief Minister greeted Mr Selvam.
