Guwahati: Security forces have foiled a major terror strike after apprehending a hardcore militant of banned outfit United Liberation Front of Asom - Independent (ULFA-I) with large quantity of explosive in Assam's Tinsukia district on Tuesday.

Based on intelligence inputs, a joint team of the Indian army and Tinsukia district police launched multiple mobile vehicle check points in the general area of Chikrajan in Tinsukia district.

This resulted in apprehension of Self Styled sergeant Sabdo Asom alias Jonki Bora of ULFA-I.

The joint team also recovered electronic detonators, remote control and 10 kg of TNT explosive during the operation.

A top official of Indian army said that, regular intelligence inputs were being received from various intelligence  agencies regarding the  plans of  ULFA-I militants to carry out bomb blasts in Upper Assam and attack security forces with an aim to revive their diminishing influence.

The success of this operation averted a major threat and helped in saving many innocent lives.
