Kolkata, Dec 2 (IBNS): Demanding arrest of all those involved in the Saradha chit fund scam and interrogation o West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) organized separate protest rallies in Kolkata on Tuesday.

The city has witnessed major rallies in the past few days.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) minded intellectuals  had participated in a rally on Nov 28 as they protested against the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) probe into the Saradha financial scam.

The BJP minded intellectuals on Tuesday organized a counter-rally.

Magician P.C. Sarkar, actor Joy Banerjee, George Bekar, Nimu Bhowmik, Ex-IPS officer R. Mahanti, journalist and columnist M.J. Akbar and some BJP workers joined the 'apolitical' rally without taking the party's flag.

The protest march started from College Square area and ended at  the city's downtown area at Esplanade.

The CPI-M organised a successful rally demanding interrogation and arrest of Mamata Bannerjee.

The protest march started from Victoria House at Esplanade and ended at College Square.

Senior CPI-M leaders like Biman Basu, Suryakanta Mishra, Rabin Deb, Manab Mukherjee participated in the rally.

CPI-M supporters burnt the effigy of Mamata Banerjee at the end of the rally.

"CBI should immediately quiz her (Mamata Banerjee)," West Bengal Left Front Chairman Biman Bose told media.

The Saradha Group that went bust last year left lakhs of depositors in a fix.

Saradha Group chief Sudipta Sen and Saradha Group director Debjani Mukherjee were arrested in April 2013 from Jammu and Kashmir.

The duo is now in jail in the ponzi scam.
