Saradha scam: Court sends Madan Mitra to judicial custody

| | Dec 20, 2014, at 04:02 am
Kolkata, Dec 19 (IBNS): Accepting the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)'s appeal and rejecting his bail plea, the Alipur court here on Friday sent West Bengal Transport and Sports Minister Madan Mitra to judicial custody till Jan 2.

After 3 days in CBI custody, Madan Gopal Mitra was produced before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) of Alipur Court Haradhan Mukherjee.

The lawyer of Madan Mitra pleaded for their clients' bail.

Opposing this bail plea, the lawyer of CBI, Partha Sarathi Dutta argued, "Holding a high position and power, Madan Mitra had attended several meetings of Sudipta Sen and Saradha group and allured people to invest their money in this ponzi fund."

"If Madan Mitra gets bail, he may influence the evidences. So, we are demanding a judicial custody of 14 days, Partha Sarathi pleaded.

Madan Mitra complained to the judge that one CBI officer had forced him to give voice record.

Listening from all sides, the judge rejected the bail plea and sent Madan Mitra and  Naresh Balodia, a legal adviser of  Saradha chief Sudipta Sen, to judicial custody for 14 days. They will be produced before the court again on Jan 2.

Madan Mitra was shifted to Alipore Central Jail on Friday evening.

After reaching jail, Madan Mitra complained of chest pain. The Jail authorities sent him to Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial (SSKM) hospital immediately and he was admitted in the cardiology department.

Like previous days, a huge number of Madan's follower were present in front of the Alipur court on Friday.

They shouted slogan when Madan Mitra was being produced in the Alipur court.

Heavy security arrangements were made outside the court area to control any untoward situation. They also threw flowers on Mitra as he came out of the car.

Coming out from the CBI office at CGO complex, Madan Mitra told journalists that he had told a series of names of CPI-M leaders involved in Saradha scam including Rabin Deb, Sujan Chakraborty and Md. Salim.

After a marathon 5 hours of questioning, the CBI had arrested Madan Mitra  on Dec 12 in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam.
