Kolkata, Dec 16 (IBNS): A Kolkata court on Tuesday sent West Bengal Transport and Sports Minister Madan Mitra to a further three-day Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody in connection with Saradha chit fund scam which had hit the state last year.

After questioning him for 5 hours, the CBI arrested Madan Mitra on Friday in connection with the scam.

CBI presented him to the court on Dec 13 and judge sent him to CBI custody for 4 days.

After four days in CBI custody, Madan was presented to the court again on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the lawyers of Madan Mitra pleaded for their client's bail.

Madan Mitra personally requested the judge to grant him bail.

The lawyer of CBI, Partha Sarathi Dutta told the judge that after the primary investigation the had come to know that Madan Mitra was directly involved in Saradha chit fund scam and the CBI had gathered many evidences against him.

Listening from both the sides, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of the Alipore court, Haradhan Mukherjee rejected Madan Mitra's bail plea and extended his CBI custody by 3 days.

The CBI appealed for a voice recording of Madan Mitra, but the judge rejected the appeal.

Like last Saturday, a huge number of Mitra's follower were present in front of Alipore court.

They shouted slogan and almost broke the cordon and tried to obstruct when Madan Mitra was being produced in the Alipur court. Heavy security arrangements were made outside the court area.
