Saharanpur riots: SP probe report blames BJP
Saharanpur, Aug 17 (IBNS): Political leaders have indulged in blame game hours after a five-member probe committee headed by Public Works Department Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav submitted its report to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, in connection with the Saharanpur clashes in the state, which blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the riots.
SP leader Naresh Agarwal told media: "The BJP is known to be involved in riots. The PM should ask his leaders to not do this. There are people in the administration who are acting against the state and they will be dealt with."
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that the report was of a political party.
"I have nothing to say on that report as I have not seen it yet," he said.
On July 26, clashes broke out over a plot of Gurudwara in the region killing three people and injuring 24 others.
Accordingly, curfew was imposed in Saharanpur. The situation went out of control as members from both the communities pelted stones at each other and set several shops and vehicles on fire.
Reports said a controversial land, adjacent to Gurudwara, was seized by another community that hurt the sentiment of people from the other group. The differences further worsened after a local court delivered its verdict in favour of one particular community upsetting the other.
