Rupee plunges below the 62 level

Mumbai, Feb 9 (IBNS): The rupee fell below the 62 level by dropping 36 paise against the US dollar, media reports said.

The rupee fell to 62.06 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday. It plunged at the Interbank Foreign Exchange due to fresh demand for the American currency from importers.

The rupee had closed at 61.70 on Friday.

The BSE Sensex also tumbled by 286.49 points (0.99 percent) at 28,431.42 in early trade on Monday, sources said.
