Ruckus by Shiv Sena MPs over Gaikwad's flying ban : LS adjourned

| | Apr 06, 2017, at 07:05 pm
New Delhi, Apr 6 (IBNS) : The Lok Sabha was adjourned for a brief period on Thursday as BJP ally Shiv Sena kicked up a ruckus charging Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathy Raju for refusing to lift the flying ban on Ravindra Gaikwad after the controversial MP denied having beaten up an Air India employee, reports said.

Tantrums ran high in the House as Sena lawmaker Anand Geete came at the Minister demanding that the ban on Gaikwad be lifted.

But Raju remained unmoved which enraged Geete.

"No flight will take off from Mumbai," Geethe was heard shouting.

The development took place just after

The situation rapidly escalated just moments after Ravindra Gaikwad defended himself by telling Parliament that he had  only shoved the employee when he insulted MPs.

"I apologise to Parliament  for my behaviour but not to the Air India official who abused and manhandled me,"  Gaikwad said.

Gaikwad also claimed that it was he who had been  assaulted by the Air India employee.

Accusing the media of subjecting him to a trial without proper investigation, Gaikwad said,  “What sin have I committed. What crime have I done that without probe I am being subjected to a media trial?"

He also  demanded that the travel ban by Air India and six other private airlines must be lifted.

In his reply, the  Civil Aviation Minister said the safety inside an aircraft is of utmost importance.

“He (Gaikwad) wrote a letter to me and I forwarded it to the police so that it becomes a part of the inquiry. It is a process of the law. It is not a member of the Parliament, it is a passenger… Air craft are machines where people fly and safety should not be compromised."

At this, Geete and other Shiv Sena MPs demanded  to know from Raju under what law Gaikwad was banned. The ruckus  prompted Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to briefly adjourn the House.
