New Delhi, Jul 24 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said members should rise above politics and support the law to end terrorism and stressed that legislation to fight the menace should be strict.

The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha after a division with 287 members supporting the bill and eight opposing it.

Opposition members, including Congress, DMK and NCP, staged walkout when their demand for sending the legislation to standing Committee was not taken up.

Members of Trinamool Congress walked out earlier when their demand for a clarification was not taken up.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah stressed on the need for a provision to declare an individual as a terrorist. "There's a need for a provision to declare an individual as a terrorist, UN has a procedure for it, US has it, Pakistan has it, China has it, Israel has it, European Union has it, everyone has done it," he said.

Clause by clause voting was taken up.

AIMIM member Asaduddin Owaisi demanded division for clause amendments which were defeated.
