Guwahati: Former Assam Minister Ripun Bora on Saturday was appointed as the president of state unit of Assam Trinamool Congress, days after he quit Congress and joined the Mamata Banerjee-led party.

"We are pleased to share that our chairperson Mamata Banerjee has appointed Ripun Bora as the state president of Trinamool Congress Assam unit," the party said in a tweet along with the copy of Bora's appointment.

Elated over his appointment, Bora expressed his gratitude to the party high command for reposing faith in him and said he will continue to work for the betterment of the state.

On April 17, the former Rajya Sabha MP resigned from the grand old party, where he served for almost more than four decades.
