Report gives clean-chit to doctor accused of child deaths in UP hospital’s encephalitis ward
Lucknow: Dr Kafeel Ahmed Khan, who was put behind bars on the allegations of not alerting the authorities about an alleged shortage of oxygen in the encephalitis ward of BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, has been relieved of all major charges by a State government report.
In Aug 2017, 63 children had died in the span of two days due to alleged oxygen supply crisis in the children's ward and critical care units of the hospital.
The state government in a 15-page investigation report not only acquitted Dr Khan of the charges but also supported Allahabad High Court's 2018 statement that there was no direct evidence of negligence on his behalf.
An FIR was registered against Dr Khan and eight more people, including the former principal of BRD Medical College in 2017.
The UP Police arrested Dr Khan on Sep 2, 2017 based on the allegation that being the nodal officer he might have known about any shortages in the critical encephalitis ward.

He was given bail eight months later on Apr 2018.
Now, Dr Khan has demanded an apology from the UP government and justice for the children who died in the encephalitis ward due to oxygen shortage.
Taking to his twitter handle, he said: "Those parents who lost their infants are still waiting for justice.I demand that government should apologize and give compensation to the victim families."
