Relationship between India, Pakistan is less heated now, says Trump offering to help again
Washington: Stating that relationship between two neighbours is 'less heated' now, US President Donald Trump has once again offered India and Pakistan that he is ready to help and solve the Kashmir issue.
Trump made the comment just weeks after he met Narendra Modi when the Indian Prime Minister had said issues between India and Pakistan are 'bilateral in nature' and both nations could sort them out.
"I think (it) is a little bit less heated right now than (what) was two weeks ago," the US President told reporters at the White House.
Offering to help, he said: "I am willing to help them if they want. They know that."
Highlighting that Kashmir issue was discussed between them, Trump said, "US is a good friend with both India and Pakistan."
Trump said Modi has informed him that the situation in Kashmir is under control.
"Prime Minister really feels he has it under control. They speak with Pakistan and I'm sure that they will be able to do something," he said.
In a major move since Independence, the Indian government on August 5 scrapped the Articles 370 and 35A which provided special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
The government also bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir with an assembly and Ladakh without an assembly.
Article 35A of the Indian Constitution allowed the Jammu and Kashmir state's legislature to define “permanent residents” of the state and also provided special rights and privileges to those permanent residents.
Article 370 allowed Jammu and Kashmir to have its own constitution, flag and right to handle its own laws except on matters that impact national security.
The decision had further escalated tension between India and Pakistan in recent times.
Trump often offered to work as a mediator between the two nations to solve the Kashmir issue following Pakistan PM Imran Khan's visit to USA.
