New Delhi/UNI: Rajya Sabha on Friday witnessed war of words between  members of ruling BJP and  AAP on the issue of  supply of polluted water by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).

BJP Rajya Sabha member, Mr Vijay Goel said, ''People of Delhi are facing serious problem of air pollution and are being provided the contaminated water and there should be a discussion on this issue.''

Denying the charges of the BJP member, AAP member Sanjay Singh said, ''The quality  of DJB's water is competing with many European countries.''

Mr Goel said that daily requirement of water here is 3800 million liters but only 3200 million liters is supplied. He also charged that only 70 per cent of  area of Delhi has the water supply pipeline and rest of the 30 per cent of the area is dependent on tankers and other methods.

Mr Singh kept interrupting Mr Goel which irked the Chair. Warning Mr Singh, Chairman Venkaiah Naidu said that Mr Goel has not taken anybody's name so why he was interrupting.

Recently, the Consumer Affairs Ministry took sample of drinking water in various cities and found that  Delhi along with Kolkata and Chennai failed in almost 10 out of 11 quality parameters of drinking water.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Sunday termed "false and politically motivated" a BIS report, which stated that drinking water in the national capital failed quality tests.

On Tuesday, the Delhi government said it would set up 32 teams to collect water samples from each ward in the national capital, test them and put the results in public domain within a month.
