Rajya Sabha passes Private Member's Bill to protect transgenders' rights
New Delhi, Apr 24 (IBNS) The Upper house of the Parliament on Friday unanimously passed a Private Member's Bill moved by Rajya Sabha MP Trichy Siva to protect the rights of the transgenders.
The Bill will attempt to formulate and implement a comprehensive national policy for the upliftment of transgenders.
Following this move, a National Transgender Welfare Commission and a special transgender court will also be set up, reports said.
There are about 58 clauses and 10 chapters in the Bill depicting different aspects of transgenders life from childhood to old age.
A private member bill was passed last time in 1970.
