Rahul Gandhi flays Centre for not aiding kins of COVID-19 victims

| @indiablooms | Jun 21, 2021, at 07:09 pm

New Delhi/UNI: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday slammed the Narendra Modi-led government over families of the COVID-19 victims not being provided compensation.

"Life is priceless and financial aid by the government comes as a very small help but unfortunately the Modi government is not even ready for that,'' he said in a tweet in Hindi.

First it was inadequate medical infrastructure to combat the virus, then it was undercounting toll figures and topping it all was government's cruelty, Mr Gandhi added in another tweet.

The tweet follows the Centre's response to the Supreme Court on Sunday over paying Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to kin of each Covid victim.

Paying compensation to around 3.85 lakh victims, a number which is likely to swell, will exhaust the financial resources available with states and Centre which is already reeling under financial distress.

Along with the tweets, Gandhi tagged a media report on the Centre's reply to the top court.
