Rahul Gandhi asks Congress leaders to hit streets, connect with masses

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday asked party leaders to hit the streets, and hold mass contact programs to understand their issues, at the conclusion of the three-day 'Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir' of the party.

"The connection that we used to have with people has snapped, we have to accept it and re-establish the connection. People understand only Congress can do it.. It is our responsibility," Rahul Gandhi said.

"We have decided Congress will go to the people, hold yatras. There is no shortcut, it can be done only through hard work. We are capable, and this is our DNA. We are born out of people and we have to go back to them," the Congress leader said.

He also stressed on the need to improve communication in the party, and said, "21st century is about communication, if there is one area where our opponent outdo us it is communication. They have much more money than us and they are better at communication. We need to reform our communication systems and communicate with youngsters in a new way."

He also backed the idea of 'One Family, One Ticket', which comes with exemption allowing those who have worked for the organisation for five years, and said, "It is very important we limit the number of family members that are there in our organisation. Let them work, develop and join the organisation. We should not have 5-6 members of a family in the organisation."

Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP and RSS of dividing the country on communal and other lines, and said fighting this divisiveness is the goal of his life.

"It is critical for the union of this country that states and people are allowed to have a conversation. The only alternative, and I say this with full responsibility, the only alternative to conversation between people of India is violence. You can either have a conversation with people of India or you can have violence," he said.
