Srinagar, Aug 24 (IBNS):  A delegation of opposition leaders, which comprised among others Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, were sent back from the Srinagar airport on Saturday, media reports said.

The delegation comprised of  leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad, D Raja, Sharad Yadav, Manoj Jha, Majeed Memon.

They had visited Kashmir to assess the situation in the state where the Centre recently scrapped Article 370 which gave autonomy to the region.

The Congress tweeted: " If the situation in Jammu & Kashmir is "normal" as the govt claims, why has the delegation of Opposition leaders led by Shri @RahulGandhibeen sent back from Srinagar airport? What is the Modi govt trying to hide? #RahulGandhiWithJnK."

The government bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir with an assembly and Ladakh without an assembly.

Article 35A of the Indian Constitution allowed the Jammu and Kashmir state's legislature to define “permanent residents” of the state and also provided special rights and privileges to those permanent residents.

Article 370 allowed Jammu and Kashmir to have its own constitution, flag and right to handle its own laws except on matters that impact national security.
