Puducherry: Woman killed in accident

Puducherry, Jun 5 (UNI) A woman was killed and two other women injured in a road accident at Chinnamudaliarchavady near here on Wednesday.

According to police, Raje (36) of Chinnamudaliarchavady, an auto-rickshaw driver used to ferry women fish vendors from Chinnamudaliarchavady to the Grand Bazaar here on a daily basis.

This morning also, he parked his vehicle at Chinnamudaliarchavady and the women were boarding the auto rickshaw when a lorry coming from Chennai hit the auto rickshaw. The auto rickshaw under this impact hit a nearby transformer and overturned injuring 11.

Kottakuppam police rescued the women and sent them for treatment to the government general hospital, Jipmer and Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences(PIMS). One of the women Muthulakshmi is undergoing treatment at the government general hospital died this afternoon.

Police registered a case and are searching for the lorry driver who is absconding.
