Priyanka Gandhi slams Yogi Adityanath over law and order problems in UP

Lucknow/UNI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday slammed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government over the rising crime graph in the state, alleging its politically motivated narrative of justifying and protecting perpetrators of crimes against women has only emboldened criminals across the state.

While attacking the government over the Gonda acid attack case, she attached the statement of the victims' father to her tweet and said, "This man's three daughters aged 17, 10 and 8 were asleep in their home when someone entered and threw acid on them."

UP Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu alleged that "in Yogiraj, Dalits are subjected to oppression as the government is trying to save criminals to save itself, then why will the criminals fear the state government."

The party said that law and order has collapsed in the state after the three minor Dalit sisters received burn injuries when an unidentified attacker threw acid on them in Paska village in Gonda district in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Two of the girls received minor injuries while the third was burnt in the face. He said that in the state capital too, a woman made self-immolation after failing to get justice.

Targeting chief minister, Lallu said that instead of checking crime or maintaining law and order, the government is using the official machinery just to harass the Opposition leaders and even arresting them on fake charges.

He termed the arrest of party leader Alok Prasad by the Lucknow police as `unfortunate’ and claimed that the Congressmen will not fear such actions and would not stop to expose the wrong doing or failure of the government.

Alok Prasad, son of former governor Sukhdev Prasad was held by the police for allegedly instigating a woman to immolate herself. The woman, who attempted to immolate herself on Tuesday in front of the Vidhan Sabha, has been admitted to the Civil hospital where her condition is said to be critical.

Earlier also another Congress leader Anoop Patel had been arrested for instigating two women from Amethi to immolate themselves in front of the Vidhan Sabha. One of the women died due to burn injuries.
