Political fight over Covid-19 crisis intensifies in Bengal as TMC launches counter-attack on BJP with FIRs on Kailash Vijaywargiya and three others

Kolkata/IBNS: Amid verbal fights and counter-allegations between the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal and BJP led Centre over the handling of coronavirus situation in the state, the political fight intensified further on Saturday with FIRs against BJP leader Kailash Vijaywargiya, Chief of IT Cell Amit Malviya, MPs Locket Chatterjee and Arjun Singh.

Earlier in the day, BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya accused the West Bengal government of "abject failure" to deal with the coronavirus crisis and migrant worker situation and went on to attack Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who is eyeing a third term saying she would have to "pay a heavy price" in the next year's West Bengal assembly elections and any "PR Agency" and poll strategist Prashant Kishor will not be able to save her party TMC.

After the FIRs were filed, the BJP West Bengal unit slammed Chief Minister tweeting: "In last 24 hrs, a nervous Mamata Banerjee, has got FIRs filed against Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya and Shri Amit Malviya, MPs Smt Locket Chaterjee and Shri Arjun Singh and several karyakartas. After losing battle in people's court she is now using police to settle political scores!"

On Thursday, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal alleged Mamata Banerjee of not accepting the people of her own state when they are desperate to return home by approving fewer trains than is necessary.

"I feel sad that while there is a need for 105 trains/day to bring back migrants to WB, the State is accepting only 105 trains over 30 days. I once again hope for the sake of Bengali brothers & sisters in different parts of the country, that WB will accept them back with open arms," he had tweeted.

The political war of words was triggered after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the central government of violating India's federal structure by not informing the State over the IMCTs' visit in prior.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) government had also faced flak from the Opposition over its alleged poor Covid testing and fudging of data though the testing has increased manifolds in the last few weeks to over 69,000 till May 15.
