PMO Twitter handle renamed as 'PMOIndiaArchive'
New Delhi, May 20 (IBNS): As Narendra Modi gears up to take the office of Prime Minister of India, managers of outgoing PM Manmohan Singh's official twitter handle PMOIndia have now renamed it as 'Dr Manmohan Singh @PMOIndiaArchive', sparking off a new controversy.
The handle's bio/introduction says "Archival material under the RTI Act for @PMOIndia till 20/5/2014. @PMOIndia will be available shortly."
Outgoing PM's media advisor Pankaj Pachauri was reportedly handling the PMOIndia twitter account.
He has tweeted, "An advisory- All our official communications are being archived according to the RTI Act. Copyrights and control remain with the office."
The move has triggered a controversy as experts said the tweets of the PMOIndia Twitter handle belongs to India and are considered as country's digital assets. They argued that it does not belong to outgoing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who is all set to form the government, has also reacted strongly against the move.
BJP's Nirmala Sitharaman tweeted: "Isn't @PMOIndia for communication from the Prime Minister's Office? An institutional handle which should continue seamlessly. Surprised!"
