New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah who turned 55 on Tuesday.

In a tweet, Modi said, "Birthday wishes to an efficient, experienced worker and my mate in the ministry. Apart from playing an important role in the government, he is also contributing in making India strong and safe. Wishing him long life and good health."

Shah, a former Gujarat minister, assumed the post of the BJP national president in 2014.

In 2019, he contested the Lok Sabha polls from Gujarat's Gandhinagar, a former MP seat of BJP veteran LK Advani.

Emerging as a winner by a huge margin, Shah replaced Rajnath Singh as the Union Home Minister in Modi 2.0.

After assuming the ministry, one of the major steps he has taken is the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A diluting Jammu and Kashmir's special status.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh also tweeted wishing Shah. Singh said, "Wishing Union Home Minister @AmitShah Ji a very happy birthday. My best wishes for your good health & a long life."
