New Delhi, Apr 13 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid homage to the martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

Posting pictures on Twitter, the Prime Minister said, "Saluting the martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Their valour & heroism will never be forgotten."

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre or the Amritsar massacre took place in 1919, as a group of nonviolent protesters were killed by the then British rulers.

The incident mobilised the Indian freedom movement and also led to Rabindranath Tagore renouncing his Knighthood.
