Paris/IBNS: India and France took a fresh pledge to deepen their bilateral ties as the European nation welcomed Indian PM Narendra Modi as the guest of honour on the occasion of its National Day.

"I thank President of France Emmanuel Macron for this warm welcome in the beautiful city of Paris. My best wishes to the people of France on their National Day. This day symbolises the values of liberty, fraternity and equality. These values also form the most import basis of the bilateral relations of our two democratic countries," PM Modi said, addressing the media in Paris.

The Prime Minister said that France has honoured 140 crore people of India with its gesture.

French President Emmanuel Macron also resonated the same sentiments for India. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "Vive l’amitié entre l’Inde et la France ! Long live the French-Indian friendship! भारत और फ्रांस के बीच दोस्ती अमर रहे!" along with a selfie with PM Modi.

Earlier, during his media address, PM Modi  expressed happiness on being part of the Bastille Day parade as the guest of honour. "I am happy that the Indian tri-service contingent took part in the Bastille Day Parade to increase the dignity and grace of this significant occasion."

The participation of the tri-service contingent and the presence of Indian Navy vessel at France’s port indicate the growing cooperation between India and France, the Prime Minister said.

“As we celebrate the 25 years of our strategic ties, India and France are preparing the roadmap of mutual cooperation for the next 25 years,” he said.

India sees France as a natural partner as its people gear up to make their country a developed nation, Modi stated.
