New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday greeted Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and their families on BSF’s Raising Day.

“Greetings to all BSF personnel and their families on BSF’s Raising Day. This force has been diligently protecting our borders. During natural disasters and crisis situations, BSF personnel have always worked hard to serve our citizens. Best wishes to the BSF family!” the Prime Minister said.

BSF is one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces of India, and was raised in the wake of the 1965 War on 1 December 1965, "for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for matters connected therewith."

It is a Central Armed Police Force charged with guarding India's land border during peacetime and preventing transnational crime at the same.
