Accra/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Wednesday (local time) conferred with 'The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana' during his historic visit to the country.

The Prime Minister said the honour is a "responsibility" for him to keep working for a stronger bilateral relationship between India and Ghana.

In an X post, Modi wrote, "I thank the people and Government of Ghana for conferring ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’ upon me. This honour is dedicated to the bright future of our youth, their aspirations, our rich cultural diversity and the historical ties between India and Ghana.

"This honour is also a responsibility; to keep working towards stronger India-Ghana friendship. India will always stand with the people of Ghana and continue to contribute as a trusted friend and development partner."

Earlier on Wednesday, Modi was received by Ghana President John Dramani Mahama at the airport and accorded a ceremonial welcome.

Modi’s visit to Ghana is the first such visit in the last three decades.

This visit is considered to further deepen the partnership between India and Ghana, and underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its engagement with Africa and Global South Partners.
